What
are your hours of operation?
We're open
whenever there is a funeral service or visitation. We're on call 24 hours
a day. Our regular business office hours are Monday through Friday from
9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Appointments can be arranged at other times, upon request.
Are the
Pope Funeral Homes really family owned or are they operated by a chain
or public corporation as so many funeral homes are?
The Pope
Funeral Homes are owned by the Pope family, and are not operated by any
chain or public corporation. We have been family-owned since 1920.
How can
I arrange for my funeral ahead of time, and what is the advantage of doing
this?
There are
several advantages to making advanced funeral arrangements. Advanced arrangements
allow families time to consider options and decide what services are appropriate
for them. It relieves family members of the burden of making decisions
at the time of death. It also allows the family, as an act of love and
consideration, to pre-pay the funeral expenses. Please see Pre-Planning
for additional information.
What
are my payment options?
Payment
is due when arrangements are made. We accept cash, personal checks, all
major credit cards, assignment of a verified life insurance policy or
bank financing. Also, we accept most insurance policies that are at least
2 years in force. Processing can take between 30-45 days.
What
should I do if a death occurs out of town?
Regardless
of the date, time, or the location where the death occurs, it is important
to contact the Pope Funeral Homes first. We can then direct the necessary
services on your behalf. Failure to contact us first may result in duplication
of services and excess cost.
Can your
funeral home conduct a funeral service, cremation or burial out of town?
We are
not limited to any geographical area. We are able to conduct services
in any location we are asked to serve.
When
a death occurs, how many copies of the death certificate do I need?
Until an
estate starts to be settled you would not know how many you need. When
you need to verify the death is when you need a certified copy of the
certificate. Insurance companies, banks, loan companies, etc. all require
a copy of the certificate. The certificate is filed at the health department
and certified copies can be obtained when needed. Generally, you will
need 3 - 6 copies.
When
I come to the funeral home what should I say to the family?
By having
visitation the family has invited you to share this time with them. Be
yourself and relate stories or memories and kind words as they relate
to the deceased. These fondest memories will be cherished by the family.
We provide a Fondest Memories Program which you are invited to use.

Is embalming
required by law?
Embalming
is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select
a certain funeral arrangement such as a funeral with viewing. If you do
not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement
that does not require it.
Is a
vault required by law?
A vault
is not required by law. However cemetery regulations may require a concrete
grave liner or a sealed vault.
Does
your funeral home handle services for infants?
When a
family experiences the loss of an infant it is important to remember that
all life, no matter how brief is precious. The same services we offer
for adults are available for infants.

What is cremation
and how will it affect my funeral wishes?
Cremation is the
reduction of human remains by direct flame. The process is done in the
cremation chamber, also referred to as a retort. Once completed, the remaining
bone fragments are reduced in size and placed in a temporary container
for transportation or an urn. The selection of cremation as a step towards
final disposition would not effect funeral wishes, as cremation can be
done at several points in the funeral process.
Can I still
have a funeral service with the body present if I choose cremation?
All services,
including embalming, casket selection, viewing and funeral service are
available, even when cremation is chosen. Remember that cremation is final
disposition just as burial.
Burial of cremated remains in an urn and an urn vault are also options
to final disposition.
Is your crematory
really at your funeral home?
We use a special
off-site facility that is EPA regulated and safe for the environment.
