Answer There are several advantages to making advanced funeral arrangements. Advanced arrangements allow families time to consider options and decide what services are appropriate for them. It relieves family members of the burden of making decisions at the time of death. It also allows the family, as an act of love and consideration, to pre-pay the funeral expenses. Please see Pre-Planning for additional information.

Question When a death occurs, how many copies of the death certificate do I need?

Answer Until an estate starts to be settled you would not know how many you need. When you need to verify the death is when you need a certified copy of the certificate. Insurance companies, banks, loan companies, etc. all require a copy of the certificate. The certificate is filed at the health department and certified copies can be obtained when needed. Generally, you will need 3 - 6 copies.

Question When I come to the funeral home what should I say to the family?

Answer By having visitation the family has invited you to share this time with them. Be yourself and relate stories or memories and kind words as they relate to the deceased. These fondest memories will be cherished by the family. We provide a Fondest Memories Program which you are invited to use.

Cremation

Question What is cremation and how will it affect my funeral wishes?

Answer Cremation is the reduction of human remains by direct flame. The process is done in the cremation chamber, also referred to as a retort. Once completed, the remaining bone fragments are reduced in size and placed in a temporary container for transportation or an urn. The selection of cremation as a step towards final disposition would not effect funeral wishes, as cremation can be done at several points in the funeral process.

Question Can I still have a funeral service with the body present if I choose cremation?

Answer All services, including embalming, casket selection, viewing and funeral service are available, even when cremation is chosen. Remember that cremation is final disposition just as burial.
Burial of cremated remains in an urn and an urn vault are also options to final disposition.

Question Is your crematory really at your funeral home?

Answer We use a special off-site facility that is EPA regulated and safe for the environment.
